Conversations with my kid

Scene:My living room. I'm laying on the sofa, sketching in a sketchbook. My 8YO daughter sits next to me, holding her sketchbook.

8YO "Dad, what'cha doin'?"

Me "Taking a break from work."

8YO "So, you take a break from drawin' to draw?"

Me "Yeah..weird, huh?"

8YO "Nope. It's good to draw stuff you want to draw, instead of always drawing what people tell you to draw."

Me (Stops sketching, looking up) "...how'd you get so smart?"

8YO (Opens sketchbook, starts drawing) "I'don't know."

Me (back to sketching) "Cool."

Curtains close on a genius and her dad sketching on a sofa.
