Dirty girl for 6/30
So, I kinda feel I should explain this week's girl a bit. See, I was going to avoid the typical type of images of "sexy girls". I wanted to focus on girls that were working everyday jobs, who happened to be sexy. Or girls that were capable and tough, which made them sexy. BUT, I had this image bouncing around in my head for a couple of weeks and I kinda had to give in and do it.
I remember taking a friend to a club in Philly (Day Dreams, off of 95, where the" girls wear nothing but a smile"!) and I was taken by the little things the girls would be doing that would remind me that "oh yeah, these girls are working!". One image that stuck in my head was how the girls would scuttle around on the stage gathering their money after their performance. If you paid attention (which, to my suprise most guys DIDN'T, as if someone turned off the"sexy" or something after the girl stopped gyrating) you'd see the "real" girl, having to gather up these dude's dollar bills that were thrown at them. I could just image the girls going to the bank to cash their ones in, or to deposit them, the way my waitress girlfriend used to do.
So, yeah, these are real people working*
Anyway, enjoy ;)

* BTW - Thank God for that, cause they make the world a happier place! (Seriously, everyone at Daydreams was crazy happy, not all skuzzy like you'd expect. There were even a lot of ladies in the audience, having a great time. Like a party, just with naked girls dancing :)

Un-men Tuesday 6/24
Hey everyone!
Issue 11 shipped last week so this week we have our official first look at issue 12!
This last arc is gonna rock your socks! John turns everything on it's ear for the grand finale, and you're gonna see some Un-men from the past that you may have forgotten about (or maybe never saw in the first place).
Things are gonna go "bug" shit crazy! ;)
Best,
Mike

Hysteria Vol. 1, chapter 1
Things are about to get REALLY good over at thinktankcomics.com!
We finally wrapped up Vol. 0 yesterday (go back and read it if you haven't) and so we're going into the first chapter of Vol. 1. I'm really excited about this one because it's drawn by some old and awesome friends of mine!
You can look forward to art from J. "everone loves the" Bone, Mucho caliente Rick Remender, Eisner winner Steve Rolston, DC hot shot Mike Norton, Mr. Powers - Mike Oeming, Scott "I'm kicking much ass at Pixar now" Morse, and The Magnificent Jon Morris. I'm particularly proud of this one, and it serves as a fantastic jumping on point for the series. Check it out.
mike
PS - This page is drawn by J. Bone, and it's absolutely fantastic. I just wanted a pin up type image of Dr. A standing at his window thinking and J. just ran with it and came up with what you see here. Brilliant!

Hysteria web comic back on track
hey everyone,
Those of you following the webcomic over at ThinktankComics.com may have noticed that it's been kinda spotty the last two weeks. Totally my fault. I kept getting new scans and re-typed dialogue to Erik late. He did his best to get it done, and we're now BACK on track. SO, in the next few days you'll see the official conclusion to Hysteria, Vol. 0
The good news is that the web comic should stay on track from here on in. We're going to take this in order and post Hysteria Vol. 1 next. All of that is completely lettered and ready to go. So look for that soon.
Best,
Mike

Dirty Girls for reals
So, one day my wife and I had to get my mother-in-law's van towed. AND who should happen to show up for a lady tow truck operator. My wife and I looked at each other, and she said what we were both thinking. "You gotta make her the next Dirty Girl!"
See, sometimes your muse will come and tow your car away. :)
I threw in the stressed out guy cause I think it makes it funnier...pluse my mother-in-law was kinda acting like this ;)

This past week's dirty girl.
I think this would work better as a painting. Wish I had the time.

My love letter to Erik Swanson
So, you may not know who Mr. Swanson is. Erik is my long time friend from college who is now a designer and artist living and working in DC. He's also had a hand in almost every comic (the creator owned ones at least) I've ever done. From doing hand cut tones and paste up letters with me on the original Hysteria back in 98 and 99(!), to doing all the pre-press and lettering as well as production help on the web comic, dude has been coming through for me time and time again for years!
I couldn't ask for a better friend, or for a more knowledgeable designer!
Anyway, enough of the mushy stuff. Erik just hooked up a new batch of pages for the web comic, as well as dropping in "space" behind the hand drawn planets I drew. This page only works cause of Mr. Swanson. SO, three chears for you homey! ;)
Best,
Mike

Fight the Power! - Orphan Works Act of 2008
I wrote my senator and congressman a few weeks back regarding the Orphan Works Act of 2008. Well, I just got this letter from my local Senator:
***
Dear Mr. Hawthorne:
Thank you for contacting my office regarding the Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008.
I appreciate your taking the time to bring your views on this important matter to my attention. As a United States Senator, it is essential that I be kept fully informed on the issues of concern to my constituents. Be assured that I will keep your thoughts on copyrights and private property ownership in mind when the Senate considers this or related issues during the 110th Congress.
The concerns of my constituents are of great importance to me, and I rely on you and other Pennsylvanians to inform me of your views. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit my website at http://specter.senate.gov. Thank you again for writing.
Sincerely,
Arlen Specter

So, I know it's just on pebble but if enough of us complain to our law makers then those pebbles will add up!

Un-men Tuesday 6/3
hey all!
Another preview from the upcoming issue 11. Hope you dig it ;)
Note - You can kinda see where I pasted in this cool burst pattern I was going to trace off onto the fountain at the bottom of the page. At the last minute I decided not to do it, and just went with water overflowing from the fountain instead. Just a bit of behind the scenes info for you.
Mike
