Fight the Power! - Orphan Works Act of 2008

I wrote my senator and congressman a few weeks back regarding the Orphan Works Act of 2008. Well, I just got this letter from my local Senator:

***

Dear Mr. Hawthorne:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act of 2008.

I appreciate your taking the time to bring your views on this important matter to my attention. As a United States Senator, it is essential that I be kept fully informed on the issues of concern to my constituents. Be assured that I will keep your thoughts on copyrights and private property ownership in mind when the Senate considers this or related issues during the 110th Congress.

The concerns of my constituents are of great importance to me, and I rely on you and other Pennsylvanians to inform me of your views. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit my website at http://specter.senate.gov. Thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,
Arlen Specter

So, I know it's just on pebble but if enough of us complain to our law makers then those pebbles will add up!

Fight the Power!

Hey brother, I also got the same letter/email from Specter. Also got a follow up letter from congressional rep Todd Platts, 19th district, which stated some of the following...

"I understand and well appreciate your thoughts regarding the potential negative impact of this legislation on artists and copyright holders. At present, HR 5889 is pending in the House Committee on the Judiciary. Rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind if and when HR 5889, or related legislation, comes before the House of Representatives for a vote."

So at least people are listening. I just hope it's enough to keep this piece of crap from passing! Fight on!

Cool! I have NOT heard back from Platts, but I hope he gets the point. His office is just a few blocks from my house, so I could demonstrate in front of his place if he votes for this thing ;)

I don't even live in the States anymore, but I wrote my old California senators (even Governer Arnie) and got similar responses. Every bit helps I guess.
