Hale soup - The drawing that made my daugther cry

This one needs some set up. My good friend Mike Oeming works for the video game company VALVE, and I got to see the fun stuff he was doing with a hysterical character by the name of Saxton Hale. So for fun I drew this piece of Hale making shark fin soup. If you know the character, then you get the joke.

Right?

Now, my oldest daughter is an animal lover. Won't even let me kill spiders in the house, I gotta release them to " be free!".

One day she walks into the studio when I was wrapping this up. She knows nothing about the character....and she did NOT see the humor in it. I looked at her face as I tried to explain and saw her eyes welling up with tears!

So, yes. I made my little girl cry with a drawing. I used my powers for evil, and I'm ashamed....

Mice Templar final pin up

You may recall I posted the lineart for a pin up I did for an upcoming issue of Mice Templar. The art is going to accompany a written piece about the fall of the Knights, and their connection to the belief in the number 13 being unlucky.

Here's the final version of that piece.

Knights Templar

This reminds me of my old illustration days. Got the chance to do an illustration to accompany a piece about the fall of the Knights Templar, and their connection to the superstition of the number 13 being unlucky. I love working in comics, but it's nice getting to flex these muscles a bit.

Things that never were part I

I've come close to doing a lot of different books. Usually my schedule complicates things, or someone changes their mind about me working on a book later in the game. Anyway, I thought you'd all get a kick out of seeing some of the behind the scenes stuff.

Here's one that might actually happen someday, who knows. Anyway, Mike Oeming and I were going to do a big martial arts comic called Ballistic Fist. Our schedules just never seem to jibe, and we've never gotten it started.

Oh, and I was in talks to do a Simpson comic. Again, my schedule just didn't work out. Anyway, here's some practice runs at the Simpsons.
