Hey everyone!
Remember the book I drew called UMBRA? The one that got a Harvey Nomination? Yeah, well, guess what?... it's being collected into a trade for the first time!!
Dover Books is getting into comics, and one of the books on their slate is UMBRA with Stephen Murphy. I'm still very proud of this story and I hope you'll all consider ordering it from your local comic shop, book store, or online.
Here's the all new cover.
The plan is to also add new story pages into it. The trick will be to draw them so it looks like my style from years ago! ;-)
Best!
Mike

Sturgeon River preview 3

This is a page from Sturgeon River - my new book with UMBRA writer, and good friend, Steve Murphy. I penciled very minimally for Sturgeon, because most of the magic comes out in the inks with this book. Check past Sturgeon posts to see what I mean.

Forget stocks, invest in UMBRA art!

I just uploaded the much coveted cover art for my Harvey Award nominated series UMBRA.
Better move on these. The first one is already gone!

Umbra over there

So, I get a special kick out of seeing my work translated for other countries and their comic markets. I just got my copies of the French Umbra, which looks great! They did a slightly oversized version with a new cover.
Umbra recently came out in Brazil too! So, if you're in either country go get a copy ;)

Umbra trade cover fight
I usually end up fighting for a long time with a cover for a trade paper back (I did something like 8 revisions for the trade to Queen & Country, Vol. 6). Umbra is no exception. PLUS, we have offers from 3 other countries to put out translated versions so I want a really strong, iconic cover.
Anyway, here are a few initial attempts. The bit on the left side is the spine. Normally I try and design the entire book cover at once (front, spine, and back) but I'm only showing the front and spine here for now.
You may not be able to tell, but on the first version the light source is a head lamp the figure is wearing.
Many, MANY more revisions to go through and new ideas to cook up.

Best,
Mike
