Geppi Museum art exhibition!

Hey everyone!

Big news! The Geppi Entertainment Museum in Baltimore (right next to Camden Yards) just hung an exhibition of my work!

Here are a few sneak peeks.

The Museum is a sight to behold, the collection is amazing, and the building is beautiful, so I'm thrilled and honored to get to show some work there.

The exhibition is to open this coming Wednesday (July 13th), and the show is to run three months. It'll feature more than 25 pieces of art, including covers and double page spreads. All the good stuff! So, if you're coming to Baltimore (maybe for the upcoming Comicon?) for anything please stop by and check it out.

best,
Mike

Free Comic Book Day FUBAR edition.

Hey everyone!

Remember when I posted about the FUBAR cover I did for FCBD? Well, that was just the warm up colors for the solicitation. Here's the final cover as it will appear on the actual comic!

Steve Becker and Jeff McComsey really out did themselves with this! They pour so much love into the FUBAR series, and I think you'll all appreciate it on Free Comic Book Day, May 4th!

Make sure to look for this bad boy in stores!

More info on FUBAR on their site.

George Washington fighting Zombies? FUBAR!

Hey everyone,

I can not tell a lie! I drew a cover for the Free Comic Book Day FUBAR special!

The FUBAR PRESS dudes have been killing the Zombie history genre for some time now (pun intended) and now they're bringing their own brand of undead to YOUR local comic shop.

Ask your shop to order you some, cause it's gonna be good!
Check out their site.

Best,
Mike

New Sketchbook on the way!

Hey everyone!

Frequent visitors to the blog will remember my plan to release a sketchbook, either a printed book or a digital file or both.

After mulling it over for a while, I had decided on a free digital sketchbook.  But after discussing it with the wonderful Olivier Vatine he suggested I do a print one through his Comix Buro collective.  He sent me some of the sketchbooks and I was bowled over by the amazing artists involved (including him!), the production value, and top shelf design! I was completely sold on the idea, and decided to focus on that one before releasing the digital version. (You'll still get a digital sketchbook, just at a later date than I had planned)

Curious about the sketchbooks? Check out the Comix Buro blog for some pictures of the actual sketchbooks.

Now, they will be partly in French, and I'm not certain of how we'll work out  the shipping to the US, but I will find out and report back when I have news. Right now we're packaging up the book it's self and getting it ready for printing.

Here are some sketches for the cover. Olivier and I discussed using the Comix Buro logo/cover girl in the book, and I liked the idea of combining her with the classic Rosie the Riveter image.

More soon, promise!

Best,
Mike

Mass Effect: Homeworlds #2 cover process

Think that if you're a cover artist you just draw a cover and all is perfect? Well, think again. Some times covers take a tremendous amount of work to get right. Here's an example of that:

Though it was hard getting through this cover, I think the end product is worth it. I'd rather fight with a cover and get it right than just have it come easily and end up with something I'm not happy with long term.

There you go.

Mike
