In the French town Angoulême, there is a huge comics fectival held every year. It's like our Comic Con, only it's not limited to one big building. The entire town is taken over, and I assume there is more wine and fun involved in Angoulême.
The French publisher Ankama is at the festival, and is announcing an ambitious plan to develop the classic French science fiction novels of Stefan Wul into a series of comics.
The Wikipedia page for Stefan Wul.
One of these books is "Oms en Série", which loosely translated means "oms linked together". "Oms" is a play on the french word for "men", or "hommes".
The Wikipedia page for the book.
I will be illustrating Oms en Série, and I couldn't be more excited about it! I'm also working with a writer I've grown very fond of, JD Morvan.
I'll have more details soon, but for now I leave you with Ankama's promo video for the line of books, as well as the promo image accompanying the announcement at the Festival.
Link for Ankama's video page.
More soon. Promise :-)
Best,
Mike
edit - For some reason the video is down. I'll post it again if it gets fixed. Sorry.

such a cool image. great premise, and your art takes it to the next level. i hope it gets an English incarnation as well.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words. Wul's novel is really great, and full of amazing images.
We have plans to do an English language version, but it's a little early to have anything concrete to announce.
The book was also adapted into an animated film in the 70's called "Fantastic Planet". Great, weird design and nicely animated!
Best,
Mike
Very cool to hear, Mike. This sounds like just the tonic for you and a treat to come for fans of The 'Thorne.
I'd love to do something for a French publisher one day...
Congratulations!!!! That preview image looks fantastic. This seems like something you're really gonna be able to open-up on, man!
Are you going to be doing the colors on this as well? I love, LOVE, the coloring on that piece.
Simon - Thanks, man! It is just what the doc ordered ;-)
Shoot me an e-mail sometime.
Asa - Thanks, and you're right! I'm so happy to be able to build the book from the ground up!
Pat - Thanks, man! Yeah, all colors done by me. One of the biggest selling points for me to work in that market - more artistic freedom!
Thanks a million, everyone!
Woo hooo! Grats, Mike! Keep us posted.
Will do, thanks!
