Comix Creator Cookout time!

Hey everyone!

It's that time again! That time of the year when my friends at Comix Connection and I throw a cookout for everyone, and collect a ton (literally!) of food donations for the Central PA Food Bank!

I've explained in a previous post  why this event is so near and dear to my heart. It means the world to me that folks come out year after year to support us and the Food Bank, but it's hard to believe this is our eighth year doing it! I began this event as a way to honor the memory of artist Mike Wieringo after he passed away, and the event has grown each year thanks to the incredibly generous comic community in Central PA!

We're getting this party started at Comix Connection in Mechanicsburg this Saturday. Please go to the Comix Connection site for more cookout information

If you're anywhere near Central PA or Northern MD then come by to say "HI", bring canned food donations, and let me cook you a free lunch... all for a great cause.

Thanks!
Mike

PS - I'll be giving an ORIGINAL Deadpool page to the top donation (in terms of weight), and sketches to the runners up. Just in case you're into that sort of thing ;-)

Cincy Comic Con!

Hey everyone!

As you know, I don't normally attend conventions. However, two of my oldest friends happen to have a convention of their own, the incomparable Tony & Kara Moore! They've invited me to their con, the Cincy Comic Con, and I've decided to attend! I mean, who can say "NO" to Tony and Kara? ;-)

This is a rare event for me, and I honestly don't know when (or IF) I'll attend another con. So if you're anywhere near by, come out and meet me and all the amazing folks Tony and Kara have lined up!

Here are the specifics of the show:

• Cincy ComiCon 2015
• September 12-13
• Northern KY Convention Center, Covington, KY
• http://www.cincycomicon.com
• twitter: @cincycomicon
• instagram: @cincycomiccon (double C at the end there)

Judge Dredd for FCBD

Hey everyone,

Legendary British publisher 2000AD announced today that I'll be drawing a 6 page Judge Dredd story for their Free Comic Book Day outing. As a kid the good Judge's book was one of the first comics I owned, so this gig is a special thrill for me. One of the few "bucket list" characters I'd like to draw.

However, I'm taking the gig under some sad conditions. The job originally belonged to respected Batman artist Norm Breyfogle. Unfortunately Norm suffered a stroke which has affected his ability to draw. Strokes are always tragic, but especially so for an artist who depends on his work.

I'll be donating a portion of my earnings from this gig to a charity fund that hopes to raise enough money to cover some of his medical expenses. I tell you this so that you will consider donating to the fund too.

Despite the international reach of comics, we are a tight knit group. I'm sure many of you remember Norm's work fondly, or know someone who does. So please give what you can to a guy that could really use the help.

My Holiday gift to you!

Hey everyone,

Though this year has been bumpy on a personal level, professionally I've had a pretty great year! You folks have made that all possible through your support of Deadpool, Oms en Serie, and all the other projects I've worked on.

As a thank you I'm making this FREE pdf sketchbook available to all of you!

It's not much, but I hope you and enjoy it and that it brightens the Holiday season for you just a tiny bit more.

Best,
Mike

Time to pre-order Deadpool vol. 7, the "Zenpool" arc!

Hey all ,

You can now pre-order Deadpool vol. 7, the entire AXIS tie in arc, featuring my redesign of Deadpool - Zenpool!

I'm especially proud of this arc, so be sure to tell you local comic shop to save you a copy.

More info below:

DEADPOOL VOL. 7: AXIS TPB
Written by BRIAN POSEHN & GERRY DUGGAN
Penciled by MIKE HAWTHORNE
Cover by MARK BROOKS
Get ready for a different spin on the Merc with the Mouth! Since the events of AXIS inverted him, Deadpool has given up violence in favor of enlightenment! You heard right — Deadpool has gone Zen and found peace! So how is he going to help his “FauX-Men” friends live through an attack by the real, also-inverted X-Men?! I don’t know. Probably not very easily. It might involve cowboy stuff. Then, our wall-crawling hero is stalked by a classic Spider-Slayer! Wait, this isn’t a Spider-Man book. So what is a Spider-Slayer doing here? Deadpool had better find out before it mistakes one red-clad, wisecracking hero for another — and mashes DP into spider-paste! Plus: The Roxxon Corporation brings us a special educational story! Learn about gracking, the energy source of the future! Collecting DEADPOOL (2012) #35-40.
136 PGS./Parental Advisory …$17.99
ISBN: 978-0-7851-9243-5

Rest in peace, Jesus Gonzalez

Beloved friend and gifted writer Jesus Gonzalez died this week. He will be very, very missed.

His obituary.

Jesus, Brian Keene, and I at the Comix Creator Cookout during happier times.

"Everybody's been wondering where you been

And, now that we know what happened
We're all wondering where you are
And even though we feel bad we won't be seein you around anymore
We want you to know we feel better, we won't have to worry anymore
We know your only worry now is
You worrying about us worrying about you
And even though we stopped worrying
It doesn't mean we're not still sad
And we're happy to let you know that, we always will be"
- Father Guido Sarducci

We'll all miss you, compañero.

Best,

Mike
